Introduced as a new feature of the 2025 VinAgora International Wine Competition, the Spotlight Varieties program was created to draw special attention to selected grape varieties. The goal of this initiative is to highlight the diversity and quality potential of the chosen varieties, encourage professional dialogue, support producers in evaluating their wines, and guide consumers in identifying outstanding examples.
The two featured grape varieties of this year’s competition were Sauvignon Blanc and Blaufränkisch. Prior to the competition, part of the jury participated in thematic training session focused on these varieties, enabling them to evaluate the wines with heightened attention to varietal character, winemaking techniques, stylistic expression, and overall impression.
Based on the jury scores, a TOP25 list was compiled for each variety, highlighting the highest-rated wines entered in the competition. These lists not only represent professional recognition but also offer valuable insight into winemaking possibilities, stylistic diversity, regional expressions, and the broad versatility of these grape varieties.

The TOP25 list does not include scores, as VinAgora emphasizes outstanding quality over point differences. As a result, the TOP 25 wines in each category are presented in alphabetical order, reflecting equal recognition and showcasing the diversity of the grape varieties.
The ’Spotlight Varieties’ program strengthens VinAgora’s professional credibility and educational mission, in line with the goal of positioning the competition not only as a platform for evaluation, but also as an informative and guiding professional forum. As part of this year’s initiative, these two interesting grape varieties will receive prominent attention at the Budapest Wine Festival and the Rosalia Wine Picnic, through educational content, targeted presentations, and pop-up tastings.
