This year, samples were entered to the wine competition from 16 countries - including one sample that travelled over 18,000 kilometers from New Zealand to be professionally evaluated by the VinAgora jury in Budapest, at Hungary’s only internationally accredited wine competition. In accordance with internatuinal rules, the judging took place in a dedicated room that met all professional requirements, and was completely separate from the wine preparation area, ensuring full anonymity of the entries. Over 931 samples were evaluated during the three-day event, with half of the expert jury coming from abroad. The competition wines were carefully prepared, bagged, coded, and served at the correct temperature in glasses for the 70-member professional panel, all to ensure maximum objectivity.
The technological background of the judging process was once again provided by the WineCompass judging system. In addition the platform not only ensures the accurate and instant aggregation of scores but also generates comprehensive wine profiles via a detailed evaluation sheet. WineCompass is currently one of the most modern judging system available, offering objective peer review and complete feedback for both wine producers and consumers.
VinAgora is a member of VINOFED, the world federation of major international wine competitions, which represents the highest professional standards. International patronage guarantees the authenticity of each medal sticker affixed to each bottle.
The diverse wine samples included varietal wines, exciting blends, sparkling wines, sparkling wines, dessert wines and organic items. Notably, 25% of the submitted wines came from abroad, allowing for a meaningful comparison between hungarian and international wines.
In 2025, a new feature was added to VinAgora: two grape varieties became the focus of attention at the competition. In the program called ’Spotlight Varieties’, this year. The best wines from these varieties will receive special recognition and year-round promotional support at both the Rosalia Wine Picnic and the Budapest Wine Festival. As part of the program, the TOP 25 Sauvignon blanc and Blaufränkisch will be announced when the VinAgora results are published.
The results of VinAgora will be announced on May 13th.
This year, for the first time, there will be a unique opportunity for the general public to taste the most outstanding wines of the VinAgora Wine Competition. Two days after the announcement of the results, on 15 May, VinAgora Prestige will debut in the form of an elegant, walk-around tasting at the WineHub Wine Center in Budapest.
A special feature of the event is that all gold medal wines will be available at the same time, in one place, so visitors can taste the top wines of VinAgora in one afternoon. Representatives of more than 40 wineries will personally participate in the event to showcase their award-winning wines.
